Chisora making final decision, as Price looks for Sheilds
Following Derek Chisora’s loss to Deontay Wilder, it left him with emotions churning in overdrive after the defeat in what was his final exhilarating fight the O2 Arena, in London.
In his 50th bout of an eventful professional career, the Zimbabwe-born fighter showed immense powers of recovery to come back from a punishing eighth round to take former WBC champion Wilder the distance. With the American showed the power early on, the fight threatened to turn into a nightmare for Chisora during a one-sided start.
Billed as Chisora’s ‘Last Dance’, as one of the most formidable punchers in heavyweight history, he was able to rally in sensational fashion in a thrilling fourth and after he got up off the canvas in round eight, the 42-year-old made it through to earn a hero’s reception before, during and after his last three-minute round in the professional ranks. Of the fight, he (Chisora) said: “Some of the rounds were very close.
“Wilder pushed me on to the ropes, but I was able to come back at him every time. I came out of the ring,” he went to say, “but it is what it is!
“Thank you very much United Kingdom, I really appreciate you. I came here when I was 16, I was born in Zimbabwe, came here to visit my mother, I got into trouble, I started boxing and I didn’t know I would be addicted to boxing.
For a victorious Wilder, he said that he “move down the gears” to help his friend before he extended an invite to the whole Chisora family to visit his home of Alabama.
“I knew Derek was going to come and bring everything that he had to fight,” Wilder started. “Now it’s over for us and I want him to live for his kids. It’s time for us to take care of each other.”
Meanwhile, in Cardiff, Lauren Price retained her world welterweight titles, after a bruising fight against Puerta Ricon fighter, Stephanie Pineiro. It came after five-weight world champion, Price suffered severely bad cut in round five.
However, the Welshwoman managed to get a points win and is now set for a face-off with multi-world title, and former mixed-martial arts champion, winning American Claressa Shields.
