Pupils at Trinity Fields School were given a unique opportunity to learn from an international athlete during a special visit organised by Sport Caerphilly.

Will Bishop, a Team Wales wheelchair basketball player and gold medal-winning para-athlete, visited the school on Wednesday 10th June, delivering two practical sessions and taking part in a Q&A assembly with pupils. The visit gave young people the opportunity to hear about Will's sporting journey, the challenges he has overcome, and the dedication required to compete at a high level.

Pupils also took part in engaging activities and were able to ask questions about disability sport, wheelchair basketball and representing their country. Will recently retained his British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Outdoor Athletics Championship long jump title and has been selected to represent Team Great Britain in 3x3 wheelchair basketball at this summer's World University Games.

Councillor Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: "Will's visit was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to learn from an athlete competing at the highest level. It was also a powerful reminder that sport should be accessible to everyone.

“We hope hearing his story will inspire more young people to get involved in sport and physical activity and realise what they can achieve." The visit supports the ambitions of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029, which aims to create positive experiences and accessible opportunities that encourage more children and young people to enjoy being active.
