Ares Games is preparing to launch two crowdfunding campaigns in the coming months: the first is ‘Mega Empires: The Far East (North and South)’, two new epic games in the ‘Mega Empires’ series which explore peoples, dynasties, and historic developments from the easternmost regions of Asia, from Japan to Indonesia; and the second is ‘City of Chaos’, a fantasy cooperative adventure game where players explore the twisting, smog-filled streets of Byronitar, the "City of Chaos”.

The preview pages are online, and gamers can sign in to get notified when the projects launch. Following an extensive development phase, both projects are now ready to be revealed to the public. ‘Mega Empires: The Far East’ will run on Kickstarter, a platform that is already a reference for the ‘Mega Empires’ game community, while ‘City of Chaos’ will be the first Ares Games project on Gamefound, a platform offering a different type of publisher support that Ares is using for the first time. The exact launch dates of the two campaigns have not been announced yet, but both are expected to be online later this Spring.

‘Mega Empires: The Far East – North’ and ‘Mega Empires: The Far East – South’ are two stand-alone games (compatible with each other and with previous ‘Mega Empires: The West’ and ‘Mega Empires: The East’ games), capturing the development of ancient civilization through thousands of years of history. Adding a fascinating new setting and new cultures to ‘Mega Empires’, they are designed with low player counts (3-5) in mind and can be combined into a larger experience for up to 10 players.

‘City of Chaos’ is the return of a cult classic: a revised edition of the board game originally released in 1996, one of the very first games to introduce deep narrative storytelling in a board game format, allowing players to experience the weirdness of the streets of Byronitar and unravel its mysteries in an unprecedented way. The setting remains unique and charming, and the game mechanics are still fresh and engaging, but of course we have leveraged developments in game design to make this edition of ‘City of Chaos’ state-of-the-art by present-day standards. Multi-session campaigns, cooperative gameplay, a revised combat system, amazing art, and original, asymmetric player characters are the main changes, developed together with the original designers, Martyn Oliver and Colin Thornton.

Sign in the preview of these projects to remain updated and be notified when ‘Mega Empires: The Far East’ and ‘City of Chaos’ launch.
