Residents and visitors gathered along Kenton Road afternoon to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Kenton Festive Lights Switch-On, organised by the Kenton Area Traders’ Association.
The event began outside The Vision Clinic on Kenton Road, where pupils from St Gregory’s Catholic Science College, Uxendon Manor Primary School and The Mount Stewart Schools performed festive songs and a Diwali dance, reflecting the area’s rich cultural mix and community spirit. The highlight of the afternoon came when Cllr Ryan Hack, Mayor of Brent, and Councillor Anjana Patel, Mayor of Harrow, led the countdown together to light up Kenton, marking the official start of the festive season for both boroughs.
Cllr Ryan Hack thanked organisers and local schools for their efforts, saying: “The Mayors of Harrow and Brent would like to thank the Kenton Area Traders’ Association for organising the annual switch-on of the Kenton Festive Lights once again.
“This event, now in its tenth year, demonstrates the fantastic community spirit of Kenton. We would also like to thank the pupils of St Gregory’s Catholic Science College, Uxendon Manor Primary School and The Mount Stewart Schools for singing and dancing so beautifully.”
Cllr Anjana Patel also praised the dedication of the local traders and community supporters, adding: “Kenton is very fortunate to have an active Traders’ Association, which works hard to improve the street scene in Kenton and without whom we would not have the flower baskets and festive lights.
The Mayor of Brent and I would like to congratulate the Kenton Area Traders’ Association for their achievements and pay tribute to all the local businesses, organisations, schools and councillors who support them.” Both mayors ended the celebration by extending a joint festive message: “May we wish everyone of all faiths and none a peaceful, happy and healthy festive period.”
