A leading housebuilder has helped spread some cheer to young patients across Leicester after hosting a festive toy drive at its head office in Coalville.
Staff from David Wilson Homes have donated a range of toys in support of Leicester Hospitals Charity, helping to ensure children spending Christmas in hospital still have something special to open on Christmas morning. The toys were collected throughout the festive period before being dropped off at the Holiday Inn Express Leicester City, where they have been distributed to local hospitals.
The donations supported over a hundred young inpatients who required treatment during the Christmas period, with toys playing a key role in helping hospital Play Specialists bring festive celebrations to the wards. Leicester Hospitals Charity supports the vital work of Play Specialists, who help children cope with their hospital stay through play, distraction and celebration, particularly during challenging times such as Christmas.
Sunita Patel, Head of Charity at Leicester Hospitals Charity, said: “Thank you to the team at David Wilson Homes for their generosity.
“These wonderful toy donations have made a real difference to children who spent Christmas in our hospitals. Our Play Specialists distributed them during Christmas week to bring joy, comfort and a sense of normality to what can be a challenging time.
“Thanks to support like this, we have helped to ensure that young patients still get to experience some Christmas magic, even while receiving treatment.” John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said: “Christmas should be a magical time for children, and we know that being in hospital over the festive period can be incredibly tough for young patients and their families.
“Our team were delighted to support Leicester Hospitals Charity by donating toys that helped bring smiles to children’s faces on Christmas morning. It’s a small gesture, but one that we hope made a meaningful difference to local families during the festive season.”
