    Young carers are set to get creative at a free workshop at Wolverhampton Art Gallery where they will be able to make and keep a football-inspired T-shirt.

    Young footballers team up with businesses to tackle community club's sustainability

    Young footballers are kicking their half term holiday into touch to lead a green energy project which is building their own employability skills while future-proofing their community club. The 15 teenagers are spending their school holidays working on engineering solutions to tackle their club’s sustainability challenges thanks to an innovative collaboration.

    The youngsters, aged 12-14, are building wind turbines and solar panels, and looking at irrigation options as part of investigating what solutions will work best for their club. The ‘Greener than Green’ project at Cleator Moor Celtic Football Club in Cumbria has been made possible by a range of diverse businesses, from one-person start-ups to major multinationals, collaborating with the community to help give the young people skills which will help them find future employment.

    Zaha and Stormzy to buy their home club AFC Croydon

    Crystal Palace forward Wilfried Zaha and rapper Stormzy have agreed a deal to buy non-league club AFC Croydon. The pair, who both grew up in the South London borough, are part of a three-man consortium alongside former Palace head of player care Danny Young.

    AFC Croydon compete in the ninth tier of English football and, following the announcement, the club said: "The consortium will own, operate and develop their childhood hometown football club.

    Zion wins big at Gymnastics British Championships

    A Birmingham based teenager has taken a step closer to his Olympic dream after winning big at the 2023 Gymnastics British Championships competition after competing at the Exhibition Centre, in Liverpool, where he became U18 All Around Silver medallist. In the individual apparatus finals, Zion Aserie became U18 Rings champion and also went on to win a bronze medal on the Floor and High Bar.

    Local sports clubs and physical activity providers are being encouraged to claim a grant of £1,000 towards the costs of recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic.

    Volunteer-led and not-for-profit sports clubs and physical activity providers in Wolverhampton are eligible for a Covid Compliance Grant offered by the City of Wolverhampton Council to help them deliver activities in a Covid-safe way and encourage regular rapid Covid-19 testing.

    £2m Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games legacy funding to get more people cycling

    Plans to get more people in the West Midlands cycling as part of the legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games has been given a £2 million boost from the Department for Transport.

    The aim of Cycling for Everyone is to work with communities across the region’s most disadvantaged areas to encourage and enable more people to get on a bike to improve both their health and the environment, as well as providing access to both employment and education. Funding for the Cycling for Everyone programme has come from the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games Active Travel Legacy Package announced.
