A free family bike ride and cycling fun day in Wolverhampton is just around the corner.

Wolverhampton Kidical Mass 2026 is on Saturday June 13 in East Park from 11am to 3pm and you can sign up for free now. The city’s cycling ambassador - Commonwealth Games gold medallist and former world champion cyclist, Hugh Porter MBE - will set riders off on the third annual ride at about 12.30pm.

The marshalled ride follows a gentle route from East Park around the heart of the city and back, taking in landmarks such as Molineux - and wherever possible, following cycle lanes developed by City of Wolverhampton Council. There will also be stalls, refreshments, live entertainment and plenty of cycling fun in the park all day.

This includes cycling skills sessions, a chance to have a free go on the East Park Cycle Speedway track, bike repair workshops and a Lime bike experience zone - showcasing electric pedal hire bikes. Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, Cabinet Member for City Transport at City of Wolverhampton Council, said: “This event is a fantastic celebration of safe, family-friendly cycling that gives children and their families the chance to build confidence riding together on public roads and cycle lanes.

“It also reflects the council’s commitment to active travel, creating healthier, connected communities where people feel confident choosing to walk, wheel and cycle.” Similar community events will be taking place across the country to coincide with The Great Big Green Week (6-14 June) and Bike Week (8-14 June).

Beccy Marston, West Midlands Active Travel Commissioner, said: "Kidical Mass brings communities together, builds confidence, and shows that cycling is a safe and enjoyable way to get around.

“Wolverhampton is showing the way during National Bike Week - by giving local families a fun and guided way to explore the city’s growing cycle network and try a healthier, cleaner and greener way to get about.” Hugh Porter MBE said: "Best wishes to all taking part in the Kidical Mass bike ride.

“Fingers crossed for good weather, and I hope everyone enjoys it." Sam Henry, founder of No Limits to Health, which organises the event with City of Wolverhampton Council, said: "The city continues to be made safe for cycling with the help of City of Wolverhampton Council - Kidical Mass celebrates that, alongside cycling for physical and mental health.”

The event is made possible with the help of UK Government funding and is also supported by West Midlands Combined Authority and Transport for West Midlands, charity Cycling UK, British Cycling and the Walk, Wheel, Cycle Trust, among others. Participants should bring roadworthy bikes to take part with everyone advised wearing a helmet. Bike marshals accompany riders along the approximately 4.5-mile route, but younger children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Children in the park must also be accompanied by an adult.
