Birmingham Airport (BHX) has landed at the region’s LEGOLAND Discovery Centre and will feature minifigures of real airport colleagues as part of a campaign aimed at shining a spotlight on the incredible work that goes into ‘building’ travel experiences.

The ‘building your journey’ campaign showcases a variety of BHX team members in their place of work, accompanied by miniature LEGO versions of themselves. From front-of-house customer service and security roles to back of house airfield positions, the initiative celebrates the diverse and extensive workforce at BHX that make journeys of all sizes possible.

All figures will be displayed within the BHX model at LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham. Built entirely from LEGO, the new miniature model located within the centre’s MiniLand attraction consists of a staggering 14,700 bricks and includes runway markings, luggage belts, forklift trucks, shops, passport control, and a fleet of LEGO planes.

Designed and created by LEGOLAND’s expert ‘Master Builders’, the set is expected to grow in coming months with the build of BHX’s iconic Air Traffic Control Tower, as well as the completion of a full interactive runway.

Commenting on the launch of the campaign, Jo Roberts, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Birmingham Airport said: “At our airport there are thousands of hard working and dedicated people that make every journey possible.

“We are home to engineers, fire fighters, security officers, mechanics, air traffic and IT colleagues to name a few. Job opportunities and types of careers at BHX is so vast we have been delighted to bring this to life with LEGOLAND Discovery Centre Birmingham.  In recognition and appreciation of some of the work that goes on every day at the airport fifteen of our colleagues have been honoured in LEGO brick as minifigures.

“By permanently featuring some of the roles and amazing people we have in this display, we hope that the next generation of colleagues will explore the range of roles we have at the airport.”

The display has been unveiled following the airport’s completion of its biggest and busiest year on record. It also falls in the same year as BHX undertakes its next Masterplan which will set out the future growth of employment, up until 2041.
