Life goes by so fast, just a hop, skip and jump from lifting the bails for the last time of the season, and the shops are full of Christmas decorations!

The summer memories fading as quickly as the light as the nights close in. Soon enough we will reconvene, the legends.... in wellies and old clothes, repairing, renewing and restoring.

From clubhouse, to wicket, changing rooms to outfields, the process springs once again into life. That is when the real season begins, the nets are scheduled, the kit retrieved from the loft and the washing machine set running on whites.

There is nothing quite so quintessential, somehow. Cricket has a way of bringing communities together in the way no other sport can.

In an uncertain world, there is a sense of security knowing that the process still exists. A peaceful haven, in a crazy, crazy world.

A day at a club cricket ground will be a day that survives the cold nights, a warm summer evening and few beers is a red-letter day. You can’t help but make friends! But don’t take my word for it, go yourself, take others.

I hope to see you at the cricket, if not on the tour!

In the meantime, I hope that you winter well and wish you all a wonderful Christmas.

One Love.
