A programme of improvements is being rolled out across several parks in Caerphilly County Borough to enhance the quality, accessibility and inclusivity of local play facilities for children and families.

Over the coming weeks, upgrade works will take place at:

  • Waunfawr Park
  • Bargoed Park
  • Cwm Darran Park
  • Morgan Jones Park
  • Ystrad Mynach Park
  • Blackwood Showfield

The parks will remain open during this period; however, some individual pieces of playground equipment will be temporarily out of use. In some locations, existing items have been removed for safety reasons in preparation for the installation of new, more inclusive play equipment.

Safety fencing will be installed around affected areas to ensure visitors are kept safe and clearly informed. At Ystrad Mynach Park, the much-loved lighthouse play structure has recently been removed after reaching the end of its serviceable lifespan and no longer being suitable for repair.

A new play feature will be installed as part of the wider programme. These enhancements are funded through the All Wales Play Opportunities Grant 2025–26, which supports the development and improvement of high-quality, accessible play spaces for children and families across Wales.

Carol Andrews, Deputy Leader and Play Champion, said: “High-quality, inclusive play spaces are vital for children’s development, wellbeing and social connection.

“This programme of improvements across our parks will ensure that more children, including those with additional needs, can enjoy safe, engaging and accessible play opportunities within their local communities. We are committed to making our play areas welcoming and inclusive for all.”

Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Waste, Leisure and Green Spaces, added: “Our parks and green spaces play an important role in supporting healthy, active communities. Investing in modern, durable and inclusive equipment across a number of sites ensures that our local parks continue to be valued spaces for families for years to come.”

The improvements will help ensure local play spaces continue to provide safe, inclusive and high-quality opportunities for children and families. Further updates, including installation timelines, will be shared as works progress.
