A brand-new McDonald’s restaurant has just opened in Birmingham Airport.

Following significant investment from local Franchisee, Dean Chapman, the restaurant is open for dine-in, takeaway, Drive Thru, Click & Serve and McDelivery. Opening hours will be 24 hours, seven days a week. The new 50-seater restaurant has created more than 100 new full and part-time jobs for the local community.

The restaurant has been developed in close collaboration with local businesses, showcasing innovations that prioritise sustainability without compromising comfort or functionality. Local McDonald’s Franchisee, Dean Chapman, who now owns and operates 14 McDonald’s restaurants, said: “We are delighted to be opening a brand-new McDonald’s restaurant at Birmingham Airport and we are looking forward to wishing a great journey for those heading off on their holidays or work trips, as well as those just returning hungry having missed their McDonald’s!

“People are at the heart of our business, and we look forward to welcoming new employees with the jobs our restaurant will create. We’re committed to investing in opportunities for a mix of all ages, life stages and backgrounds, promoting flexibility and equality.” Nick Barton, CEO of Birmingham Airport commenting on the opening said: “It was great to officially open the brand-new McDonald’s on-site here at BHX.

“The new restaurant, conveniently located at the entrance to the airport, will be able to serve both our arriving and departing passengers and our local community. The unit has been built in a sustainable and responsible format which supports the airport’s net zero target and will also offer electric vehicle charging points within its footprint. We wish Dean and the team all the best on the opening and look forward to working in partnership.”

With consumers increasingly looking for greater speed, efficiency and choice when ordering their food, the Birmingham Airport restaurant has been built in-line with the McDonald’s Reimaging programme. This combines a new restaurant layout with the latest technology to create a more seamless and enjoyable experience for customers.

With dedicated areas for the different ways to order, the new restaurant offers a more efficient way to order and provides customers with adequate space to enjoy their meal. The new kitchen design and dedicated courier waiting area will allow crew to better accommodate both courier and customer needs, meaning they will be able to serve more quickly, efficiently and accurately than ever before.

Encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices continues to be a key focus for McDonald’s. As part of its commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2030 across all restaurants and offices, the Birmingham Airport restaurant incorporates a range of sustainable design features, including:

  • The steel used in the building is certified with Environmental Policy Declarations
  • Reduced glazing to the Shopfront and Serving Booths, due to the new building model, which in turn reduces the energy demand for heating and cooling
  • Using recycled plastic for the lining of the roof parapet panels; which is made from recycled Happy Meal® toys
  • Timber window frames and partition walls have replaced the traditional aluminium and steel frames
  • A fully modular building which allows it to be reused in the future
  • External cladding made from recycled timber polymer panels
  • Wall lettering from recycled material (including McDonald’s own used coffee grounds)

The new restaurant is located on Jetstream Road, Birmingham Airport, Birmingham, B26 3FT. Some of the key innovations that customers can expect to see at the Birmingham Airport – Jetstream Road restaurant include:

  • A front counter redesign which will create specific areas for different sales channels, meaning more space for customers to enjoy their meal, less congestion around touchscreens, and shorter queues.
  • A dedicated courier waiting area and entrance which will allow crew to better accommodate courier needs, alongside reducing congestion in the dining area to create a more relaxing restaurant environment for customers.
  • A new kitchen design which includes a bigger order assembly area and dedicated areas to prepare dine in orders, will help crew serve more quickly, efficiently, and accurately than ever before.
  • Improved car park layout: will create modified traffic routes that will improve circulation around the restaurant, so it is much easier for Drive-Thru and Click & Collect customers to get their order.
  • Improved break spaces and redesigned crew rooms which will create a more relaxing and comfortable space for crew to take a well-deserved break.
