Students from Birmingham’s CORE Arena Academy have raised over £130 through sponsored reading at lunchtime for charity.

Children raised money for charity ‘Read for Good’. The event raised money to help children in hospital access brand new books and experience inspiring storytelling sessions.

Students spent the lunchtime of Wednesday 4th February reading in silence to raise funds, securing sponsor money from friends and family. The initiative takes place in the National Year of Reading, which is a government and charity led initiative to help promote reading in childhood and instil a love of reading from an early age.

The initiative has also been backed by a recent campaign by The Times as part of their ‘Get Britain Reading’ effort. Raj Mann, executive headteacher at Arena Academy, praised the students who took part.

He said: “One of the single biggest indicators for a pupil’s future success is whether they read for pleasure and read willingly outside of school.

“Our students should be very proud of the funds they’ve raised for a very worthy cause”.
