All students at Rockwood Academy in Alum Rock, Birmingham, part of CORE Education Trust, took part in a series of theatre-based workshops designed to help them understand safeguarding issues.

Delivered by Loudmouth, a nationally recognised provider of safeguarding education, the sessions use drama followed by discussion to give students a safe space to explore challenging topics. The workshops were tailored to each year group.

Year 7 students focused on bullying, cyberbullying, and online behaviour, learning how to recognise bullying and seek help. In year 8, students explored healthy relationships, personal boundaries, and respect, including how to spot controlling or unhealthy behaviour.

Students in year 9 examined harmful sexual behaviour and harassment, gaining confidence to challenge inappropriate actions and support others. Meanwhile, year 10 sessions addressed criminal exploitation, grooming, and county lines, helping students identify warning signs and understand where to find help.

These workshops are part of Rockwood Academy’s wider work to help students understand risks, know how to get support, and feel confident reporting concerns. Richard Reeve, headteacher at Rockwood Academy, said: “Safeguarding is at the heart of life at Rockwood Academy.

“Through personal development lessons, assemblies, student leadership groups, and wider safeguarding education, students learn to recognise risks, seek support, and take practical steps to keep themselves and their peers safe.”
